On 18 October, the I Tempi Chamber Orchestra performs at the renowned Stadtcasino Basel in Basel, Switzerland, for an evening devoted to the elegance and charm of Mozart’s clarinet repertoire. Under the direction of Gevorg Gharabekyan, the orchestra is joined by acclaimed clarinetist Sharon Kam, whose artistry brings warmth, brilliance, and timeless beauty to this enchanting musical journey.
Gevorg Gharabekyan understands his artistic work as a continuous journey of discovery – a search for depth, meaning and expressive power. He is guided by the principles of historically informed performance practice and a profound respect for the works and intentions of the composers. To realise this artistic vision, Gharabekyan founded the chamber orchestra I TEMPI in 2013, together with fellow musicians. Since its founding, the ensemble has released three CDs as well as various live recordings. Gharabekyan is currently in the process of performing all of Beethoven's symphonies as part of the subscription concert series at the Stadtcasino Basel.
Gharabekyan received his conducting training at the Lucerne University of Music with Ralf Weikert. Formative influences include his participation in the American Academy of Conducting and masterclasses with Riccardo Muti, Neeme and Paavo Järvi, Tugan Sokhiev, David Zinman, Daniele Gatti, and Jorma Panula, who described him as a "hyper-musical conductor." He has conducted ensembles such as the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn, and the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra.
